6. Just a note for others out there, the setting is not very easy to find (at least on my Samsung Galaxy S3 mini Android 4.1.1). Go to Wireless and network -> More settings -> Tethering and portable hotspot -> Portable WiFi hotspot. Once there, you'll have to press the Menu button (bottom left of your phone) and up pops Timeout settings! The Tether. Your hotspot makes a second connection, to the device or devices using it as a hotspot. The second connection is known as the tether. The tether connection is just as vulnerable to eavesdropping and hacking as the source connection. If left unsecured, anyone nearby can log on to your hotspot. Obviously that puts your data at risk. Go to your myAT&T account overview. Sign in, if asked. Scroll to My devices and select Manage add-ons for the device you want to add mobile hotspot data. Scroll to Explore add-ons and select Hotspot data. Choose Monthly or One-time. Select Add to device and follow the prompts. Heads up: For the 10GB recurring monthly add-on purchase, unused USB Cable. If the device you’re connecting is able to connect to your smartphone or tablet (whichever device has the data plan that you’re using to tether through), that’s probably the best

So I booked a very good offer and, yes, tethering with my Android 2.3 phone (via USB) does work without problems. Perhaps the next time I'm in France, I'll try playing with the TTL
